OVERCOACHING
Overcoaching is a term used to describe the excessive input or feedback a coach delivers to a player or group of players. The overwhelming input delivered to a player can stifle or debilitate the player’s performance, especially the player’s cognitive ability to actively problem solve or develop problem-solving ability within the dynamic game of soccer.
While it can take place during games or training sessions, it can also be delivered off the field. Furthermore, while the input may come directly from a coach, parents as well as others can cause the same effect.
The definition of overcoaching is akin to the joystick coaching , where a coach provides so much instruction that it leaves the player little to no freedom to make and execute decisions of his or her own. This can significantly stifle a Player Development, especially the Speed of Play and Cognitive Development.
